How long will it take for this medicine to work on me and until when will I have to take this medicine?
Most patients ask how long they will need to take the medicine. The answer varies depending on symptoms, the physical condition of the patient, and the mental state. Ordinarily, most patients feel better 7 to 15 days after taking the medicine. Typically, patient's symptoms disappear by 90% within three months, but in the case of patients who have suffered from chronic prostatitis for a long time, it takes a longer time to recover. However, in the case of undergoing acupuncture, moxibustion and vacuum cupping therapy in addition to the medicine, a quicker recover may be made.

*Is ‘Si-Won-Kwae-Tong-Tang’ prescribed for all patients uniformly?*
Prostatitis symptoms vary from patient to patient and all patients are different in constitution and vigor. So, the prescription is not written out uniformly. The contents of ‘Si-Won-Kwae-Tong-Tang’ may be increased or decreased in view of the patients’ conditions.

Is it possible to cure prostatitis perfectly? Doesn’t it reoccur?
Yes, it is possible to cure prostatitis perfectly, and yes, it can recur. Once the gradual recovery has been completed, the body and life of the patient must be properly managed so as to not overdrink, overeat, stress out, overwork, overmasturbate, or have to much sex, etc. As long as recovered patients live healthy well managed lives, their cure should be permanent. In addition, some patients take ‘Si-Won-Kwae-Tong-Tang’ later as a preventative measure and to boost their health.

Tell me how to do aftercare.
Aftercare is of the utmost importance for prostatitis patients. If you return to your old habits, overwork, overdrinking or whatever, it is most likely to reoccur. Therefore, you had better change your lifestyle so that your prostate may be protected. Above all, you must give attention to urination. You had better not retain your urine or strain while passing it. Relax your body when passing urine. Get enough sleep, and keep regular hours so that you may be free from stress and be restful to your body and spirit. Also,remember to avoid overly sweet, salt, oily, or spicy foods, and avoid overdrinking and excessive caffeine. Drink clean water as much as possible so that secretions may be discharged from the prostate. Do moderate exercise always so that your legs may be strenghtened and your circulation well maintained. Take hot baths, and massage the perineum so that your muscles may be relaxed. You should also undergo a medical checkup at regular intervals. You had better not sit on a chair for hours, and had better make your body limber at moments through stretching. Also, don't let your buttocks get cold or wear tight underwear or blue jeans, as well as not ride or bike so that your perineum may not be under pressure. Avoid excessive masturbation or sexual intercourse, and make out menus with vegetables, tomatoes and beans so that it won't reoccur.

Please give me directions for the use of the medicine.
You may eat what you like, but had better not drink alcoholic drinks or eat fatty food because such things make prostatitis worse. Eating a lot of vegetables and beans helps strengthen and calm the prostate and is highly recommended. Take the medicine ‘Si-Won-Kwae-Tong-Tang’ before each meal so that it may effectively work upon the urinary system at the underbelly. If you have loose bowels after taking the medicine, take it after each meal.

Can I pass on my prostatitis to others?
It is impossible to pass prostatitis on to another. Don’t worry about it. However, prostatitis patients should beware of their sex life. In most cases, prostatitis is caused by an initial bacterial infection, that is, the prostate becomes infected from another in unsanitary conditions. Those bacteria invade through the medium of saliva, and thus you should refrain from unprotected oral and vaginal intercourse. Although you were diagnosed with chronic nonbacterial prostatitis, you should give care to bacterial infection. In the case of prostatitis patients, the immune system of the prostate and urogenital organs may be weakened even by slight external factors, not like healthy people. Since the vagina is apt to propagate bacteria you have to use a condom. Also as more bacteria inhabit the mouth, you had better avoid fellatio.

I have taken antibiotics for the last ten years, and so I have developed a resistance to antibiotics. Can I be treated?
‘Si-Won-Kwae-Tong-Tang’ is the very medicine you are looking for. If you have taken antibiotics or anti-inflammatory agents for a long time, your immune system may have been weakened. I recommend you take ‘Si-Won-Kwae-Tong-Tang’. I am sure that it can help strengthen your immune system and remove inflammations. Our body has the bandwidth to eliminate injurious energy by itself. But taking excessive antibiotics weakens the immune system. The region between the anus and the genitals is called the perineum, where a pathway named ‘Im-Maek’ is originated. From the viewpoint of traditional Korean medicine, the perineum is filled with negative energy. In other words, it has the worst circulation in the body. Besides, the prostate contains many lipocytes. For these reasons, it is difficult to infiltrate medicine into the prostate. In traditional Korean medicine, there is a medicine that leads therapeutic medicine to the target region. It is called ‘In-Gyeong-Yak’, that is, ‘Leading Medicine’. The therapeutic medicine can be effectively infiltrated into the prostate along with the leading medicine. It is a part of the superiorities of traditional Korean medicine.

Should prostatitis patients discharge semen regularly?
From the viewpoint of traditional Korean medicine, semen is regarded as precious. Semen is regarded as a great source of energy. Therefore, patients with chronic nonbacterial prostatitis, whose immune systems have become weak, had better not discharge semen too often. Discharging semen once a week is best for most patients, because it is also not a good idea to hold semen for too long because this can further congest the prostate. If you feel tired or bad after ejaculating, you should avoid discharging semen.

How is western medicine applied?
In brief, western medicine is mostly applied to diagnosis. In practice, diagnosis is more important than treatment. Accurate diagnosis detects other diseases such as prostatic cancer and bladder cancer. Also, western medicine (antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, etc.) is helpful for initial therapy, but is not so helpful for chronic prostatitis.
